It finally comes down to this: the Vegas Golden Knights versus the Washington Capitals.
No one could have predicted such a scenario even at the onset of the first round: an expansion team in its first year against a team whose window seemingly closed after years and years of heartbreak.
Alex Ovechkin and his gritty group of Capitals have weathered the storm past the Blue Jackets, Penguins and Lightning using a nice blend of opportunistic goal scoring, defensive commitment and timely goaltending from Brayden Holtby.
The Golden Knights however roll four fast lines that forecheck aggressively and are backed by legendary goaltending from Marc-Andre Fleury. The dynamite first line of Jonathan Marchessault, William Karlsson and Reilly Smith has been unstoppable so far, eliminating the Kings, Sharks and Jets with a 12-3 record.
The Capitals seem to have destiny on their side, but the Golden Knights may simply be too fast for Washington to handle. If Washington can will itself to victory as it has up to now, perhaps they make a series out of it, but Fleury may be too much for the Caps to handle.
Prediction: Vegas Golden Knights in 7
Conn Smythe Trophy Winner: Marc-Andre Fleury
